1. Use the feeler gauge to plug the tooth gap from the end face (turning the other gear), just plug it into the feeler gauge and the maximum reading is the flank clearance.
2. Use the dial indicator to measure the top of the head near the middle section of the movable gear profile and turn the movable gear. The reading is the end face clearance.
